Iowa Mid-Century Modern
Welcome to Iowa Mid-Century Modern, a collective dedicated to building a local community of design enthusiasts. We believe both great mid-century design and a great audience for that design exist in Iowa. Together we can share our passion for mid-century design, architecture, art, and fashion to educate, preserve our heritage, support local businesses and ultimately foster a lasting appreciation for a remarkable era of design. SHOP HOP: Check out all of the city's best mid-century stores in one day! Participating shops serve snacks and drinks, and offer in-store specials. Every year, the shop hop features its anchor stores (Funky Finds, Modville, AOK Antiques, Atomic Garage, and Skylabs,) and introduces you to new stores in the Des Moines area. This portion of the event is always free.
COCKTAILS: The annual after-party is at Hello, Marjorie. Redeem drink tickets for signature cocktails at the mid-century inspired bar in the historic Des Moines Register building.
HOME TOUR: Our annual home tour showcases several stunning examples of mid-century architecture and interior design in Des Moines. IMCM has organized home tours in Des Moines since 2013, and brought you the IAF home tour in Oskaloosa in 2018. In the past, we have featured homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and other prominent architects. Not only do the tours provide excellent architectural examples of the era, but they also exhibit how to bring mid-century styles to homes of every decade. Proceeds from past tour ticket sales have benefited the Iowa Architectural Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Tickets are required to attend home tours and are available through this website typically six weeks in advance.
