Iowa Mid-Century Modern

Welcome to Iowa Mid-Century Modern, a collective dedicated to building a local community of design enthusiasts. We believe both great mid-century design and a great audience for that design exist in Iowa. Together we can share our passion for mid-century design, architecture, art, and fashion to educate, preserve our heritage, support local businesses and ultimately foster a lasting appreciation for a remarkable era of design. Join our Facebook community to participate in the discussion. SHOP HOP: Visit several of the best vintage stores in Des Moines in one day! There will also be a pop-up mid-century market for one day only. Learn more.

HOME TOUR: Our annual home tour showcases several stunning examples of mid-century architecture and interior design in Des Moines. IMCM has organized home tours in Des Moines since 2013, and brought you the IAF home tour in Oskaloosa in 2018. In the past, we have featured homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and other prominent architects. Not only do the tours provide excellent architectural examples of the era, but they also exhibit how to bring mid-century styles to homes of every decade. Proceeds from past tour ticket sales have benefited the Iowa Architectural Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. Tickets are required to attend home tours. This year's tour has sold out! Join the waitlist here.

COCKTAILS: On Sunday, join other mid-mod enthusiasts at The Bartender's Handshake. Included with your home tour ticket is a free drink ticket.* Enjoy the cozy, retro vibe of the bar, or pick a seat on the spacious patio. Lot and street parking available.

*Drink tickets are only redeemable Sunday, June 4, on your choice of Midwest Modern specialty cocktails. Not valid on any other date or drink.

The 2023 event will be June 3 – June 4.

A special thank you to our sponsors
